Patient Dumping

Comments Off

As if access to medical care isn’t difficult enough hospitals have been accused of patient dumping.  A hospital in Costa Mesa California is accused of transporting a mentally ill patient over 40 miles and dropping the patient in the Skid Row Section of Los Angeles.  Patient dumping is a practice employed by some hospitals to avoid the expenses associated with caring for uninsured patients.  Health insurance, or the lack thereof, continues to be a major problem throughout the country.   Insurance companies have been enjoying significant profits at the expense of patients and medical facilities.  Without doubt this is a critical time for both patients and the delivery of health care services.
